Sea Horses

When you first get in at the PPG Aquarium in Pittsburgh Zoo, you will be entertained with the collection of sea horses. It amazes me how their features naturally blends in with the rocks and sea weeds.

Take a look at this one. If you are not attentive enough, you would think that it is just one of the sea weeds.

I remember when I was a kid, my father would take home a sea horse if he finds one in the ocean and put it in a jar for us to see. Then we would let it go afterwards. Some people there collect and dried them for decoration.

  1. We have a seahorse display at our local aquarium. Interesting little critters. (Where do you live in the Pittsburgh area? My husband's family moved to Mount Lebanon when he was 10 or 12, from Niagara Falls, and I attended the University of Pittsburgh for my early PhD work -- did not finish there but rather in Russia, but we spent about five years in new Kensington.)

  2. Yes, the sea horses are beautiful and gentle creatures that are a welcome sight in any aquarium. It is just unfortunate that they are being hunted and dried in the Philippines to be sold to Chinese businessmen who use them as medical ingredients. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
