Ocean City, July 2014

Seeing my children enjoyed the water in Ocean City reminds me of my childhood. I grew up in a coastal area so most of the times, kids swim in the ocean when it is calm and safe. Kids over there pretty much learn how to swim by themselves.  We don't have to go through swimming lessons because it is part of our survival living in the  coastal area.
I did not have  any fancy things growing up but I experienced fun things that my kids are not fortunate to have  living  in a modern world.  Simple living  to me is the bomb in learning  many things.
Gadgets did not exist in my childhood.  We did not even have a TV in our home but our childhood was  very normal.  We pretty much enjoy whatever is around us.
I am glad that although, we are  living  far from the ocean, we can afford to  go to one once in a while and let them experience the  joy of  things away from gadgets and stuff.
I am glad that my children enjoy even the simplest things like going on a creek and trying to catch cray fish.  You know just for experience.  A lot of kids are not interested anymore in doing those kind of activities.
Our son was fearless in the water.  He is not scared to go under the waves lol.
I miss the ocean ever since I came here but I am not really into  swimming in it.  I'd rather swim in the pool than in the ocean.
So yeah, our trip to Maryland was a fun-filled family trip that I hope my  children will always remember when  they grow up.
I hope that when I am gone and they somehow look through my blog posts and read them, that they would feel joy in their hearts.
We are not rich but we  d our best to  make our children's childhood worthwhile.  I think that is what matters the most.  I always tell them that  even though we can't afford a lot of things that they want, we love them!

  3. I agree with you. Living by the nature, be it the ocean, or rivers and jungle for my son and lakes and forests for me, gives you experiences and teaches you things that no gadget, TV program or even internet can never give you.

  5. What? You went here? LOL! The thing about the beaches in the east coast are the waves. They're so huge you won't be able to actually swim unless you are really good at it.

  9. Your kiddos are absolutely adorable! We took a trip to Virginia Beach this year and I loved watching my kiddos play in the waves and look for seashells. We too don't live very close to the ocean, but it's nice to be able to take them at least once a year.

  15. When I was younger, one of my biggest dreams was to own a beachfront property. I think I was a fish in my past life! Haha. It seems like it is difficult to find a Filipino that does not know how to swim! I agree with you too, sis, that it is the memories, not the money, that matters most. Kudos to a great mom like you!

    1. When I was in Pinas, we are literally yards away from the sea but now that I am here, we are very far but that doesn't stop us from going to the ocean. We want the kids to experience it too that's why even if it's a long drive, we went.

  17. That's is so sweet of you sis, I agreed with all what you said, priority is important and gadgets is just a material things that would last for a week or a second if it is a toy. I observed with my daughter the things my parents-in-law given to her it only a matter of time and she is not interested anymore. Family bonding is a must in anyways that's one of the reason we travel with my parents-in-law so my daughter can remember that we value each other even we just go in our cottage and do hiking and enjoy the boat ride and we are all set, happy and content.

  18. Nice to see your family enjoying the beach! I can totally relate to you when I was a kid, we didn't have much technology too! But we had fun in the beach! :D

  19. Like you, I also want my son to experience other things away from the gadgets that children nowadays are accustomed to having at their disposal. If only our kids can experience the outdoor games we played with our childhood friends, like patintero, tumbang preso, etc., then I'd be a happier mom.
