I grew up dirt poor but our Christmas tree then was always new. You know why? Because we just chop it off from the woods. We call it salago, it's a type of tree where you can easily peel off the skin. Then we would wrap the branches with the foil from the cigarette to make it look a little fancier. Then we would put small rocks on candy wrappers and hang it in the tree. That's what our Christmas tree was back then, it's a made up one lol. We did not have ham in the table or gifts under the tree but we were happy because we were complete as a family. Of course as a child, I was wishing for toys too. So even as a child I know that Santa Claus don't exist hahaha.
Anyhow, sorry for being nostalgic here lol. Below is our tree last year. We bought this during our first Christmas in our new home so we had this white tree for four years. Hubby wanted a real tree this year but I talked him out of it.. Hirap kaya linisin nun noh, the leaves fall off kasi so you have to constantly clean under the tree although I agree that it smells good.
We put up that white tree at Dad's home this year and we bought the one below for us. The kids love our new tree because it rotates which is kind of cool for them. You may check out here when the kids help me out decorating it or you could watch the video below..

ReplyDeleteCould you tell me where you got your "Recent Commenters" widget? Thanks.
Love your story about your Christmas tree(s) growing up. I bet they looked really pretty too. Talk about blessings in disguise. The lack of funds often drives us to be more creative. It's so easy to just buy stuff when you have money, but anything that you make yourself is much more special and precious.
ReplyDeleteYou've come a long way from your underprivileged days of childhood where you just cut from trees to make your own makeshift Christmas tree. Now God rewarded you for all your sacrifices and perseverance in life. Your Christmas trees this year and last year are both beautiful and stately. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
