My father-in-law always address himself as an "old fart" but I always think of him as an "old gem" for his wits and wisdom. He is a very loving man who exudes care for everyone. He told me once that he wants to live his last few years of life like Jesus, that no matter how bad a person is, he still like them because there is an inner good in them. I felt bad when we visited him yesterday because he told me that I should call him everyday because he gets lonely and bored at home. Hubby and I offered him to live with us but he doesn't want to be a burden to anyone which I don't think would be a case anyway.
Photos were taken a couple of weeks ago when we went to the park with him |
He wants us to visit his two sisters this summer so we told him that we can go at the end of May when the kids are off from school already. We want to take the opportunity of taking him because it's very rare that he wants to go somewhere.
Oh it is so nice to be able to enjoy the outdoor activities once again. I felt like the winter stayed so long. We've got some warm days for the last few days but now it is cool again, in fact we will have some frost tonight, according to the weather channel.

ReplyDeletethis post makes me miss my grandfather back in Phils...:) i am sure he is definitely NOT old fart...he is surely a GEM, :) always great to spend time with family and i love that your kids can spend time with him...:) treasure each moment.
ReplyDeleteyour lucky to have him, not all father in law are like that. I wish i have one but since my hubby and his own father is estranged , i don't know if we could create a bond like this.
ReplyDeleteThe profile of your father-in-law in the first photo is very beautiful! Such a delightful expression on his face!
ReplyDeleteaaawwww! that is so sweet of you to have that kind of big heart for your FIN. Not a lot of daughter in law's treats like that to their in-laws. I'm sure he is happy to have you in the family
ReplyDeleteThat was so sweet of you sis to talked about your father in law. It's seldom to find a old gem like him. Lucky you you found your old gem!
ReplyDeletehe's really an old gem! make a drastic move and kidnap him. kidding!
ReplyDeleteHe is indeed an old gem, he is so kind. He looks like a happy person, too admirable.
ReplyDeleteYour old gem grows with age. He is indeed a blessed man. Sana ako rin maging ganyan ang pananaw sa buhay.
ReplyDeleteI am happy for you and your FIN get along well not all in-laws are like that, I agree it is rare to find a great PIL these days but when you got them keep them with TLC :) I like how you captured his candid shot!
ReplyDeleteI think everyone should follow 'old gem's' wise words, although some people's good is hidden very very deep it might be worth digging that little while longer to find it x
ReplyDeleteYour father in law is obviously self sufficient and wants to live by himself--however he is lonely--so a couple of visits a month would help a lot.
ReplyDeleteA candid shot of your father-in-law. It's a great thing to have a good relationship with in-laws and with the rest of the family as a whole. You have a big heart for offering him to live in your house :-)
ReplyDeleteI imagine he is lonely. I bet he really enjoys spending time with the grandchildren. I think it is important to take the extra time to be available for our parents. They don't live forever and those moments together need to be cherished.
ReplyDeleteNothing like an older, wiser gentleman in your life.
ReplyDeletehow old is your father in law rose? my FIL just visited us a couple of weeks back. i think he's 74. i love the family photo you have there at the park. it's a great thing that you guys live so close to him, you can visit him more often.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen, he is turning 91 this year.
DeleteGreat pictures and it would be great to take him on a trip. I know my husband wants to go to TX and see his grandparents. Its been since he was a child that he has seen them.
ReplyDeletespending time with a love one is really a must thing much to an older person. He surely appreciate your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOh I remember that day when John asked blogger friends to help him greet his dad a happy birthday :-) those were the days and look at him, looking great and having a good time :-) Now, I am missing my FIL :-( Anyway, nice photos you posted in here Rose.

ReplyDeleteAhhh..the family games is so fun... thanks for sharing. and you are one lucky girl to meet your father in law...
ReplyDeleteElders have always lots of things to share. The wisdom shared is from lessons learned and life experiences through the years. Advice and guidance proven right and effective passed along from their great great grandparents.
ReplyDeleteYou have an amazing father-in-law and he is blessed to have a daughter-in-law like you, too! Makes me miss my own father now. I hope and pray for more years for your FIL so you still can get to hang out often!

ReplyDeleteaww...you are truly a sweet DIL, sis! great family photos there!
ReplyDeleteI haven't met my grandparents on both my mother and father side. I wish I had. But I met several elderly people and made friends with them. They are indeed full of wisdom. In your Father-in-law's case, he's a tough guy. And I bet he's fun to be with. Great family picture you have there with him! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that your family was able to enjoy the outdoors. here in Pinas it's too hot to go outside!
