Otter or Beaver?

I am not sure if these are the Otters or the Beavers.  The place where otters and beavers were placed at Pittsburgh Zoo are close together and I am not very familiar of these two animals.  So you be the judge.

  1. In the first pic and upon seeing this, I was thinking they were otters. Even as many zoos as I've been to, I'm not so sure the difference in the two. I may have to look closely at my zoo books from other places to find out.

    Have a great week!

P.S. I will get around to adding your blogs in my Blog List. I still have some tweaking to do with my new layout.

  2. based on the 1 picture I can see the tail, looks like beavers. The otters tail is sleek and long. We went to the Bronx Zoo yesterday...love the zoo!

  3. I have to say beaver also based on the tail. Although the animal in the third pic might be an otter. The wide flat tail is definitely beaver. Great pics!

  4. They are beavers Rose kasi they have paddle tails, lol. Otters have smaller and slimmer bodies. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.

  9. Not sure what it is but its a great water shot! Zoos are good to visit, a lot of animals in the zoo are the only way I would get to see some of the different animals.

  21. I agree with everyone else, by the flat paddle-like tail it looks like a beaver, but thought Kim's answer was fun, 'it's a penguin'. Love that sense of humor.

  24. Beavers have a large flat "pancake" tail which they use to balance themselves as they gnaw and chew on a tree. They are terrific swimmers and make the most ingenious dams and homes.

  25. I'm pretty sure they are beavers, too. We see them from the boat when we go out on the river, where they are in their natural habitat. They are funny! When they sense we are nearby they swim around fast and swat their tails hard, making a splash in the water! We don't get too close because we don't want to scare them away so this display is typically happening from yards away and it's hard to get a decent pic.

Glad you and the kids enjoyed the zoo! I haven't been to one in ages.

    Ciao,
    Gina
