Egg Drop Soup

When I was  pregnant with my daughter, I would always send my husband to the Chinese Restaurant just to buy me an egg drop soup.  So I am not wondering  that my  daughter loves it too.

Satisfying my Cravings

Being away from my origin country is hard especially when it comes to the food that you used to eat. I crave for them sometimes. Good thing hubby is a great provider, whenever we go to the asian store, he would let me buy those foods that I want even if they don't eat it just to satisfy my cravings. I actually was hesitant to try this belt fish then but he said for me to try it, now I love it.

Pancit

I cooked the last pack of pancit yesterday. I used the left over steak that we bought from the chinese resto for the sahog, added some veggies and oala, instant yummy noodles dish na. I love cooking pancit because all of us eats it, my kids and husband love and so am I.

Left Over food

What do you do with your left over food? Do you throw it away? When I came to the States, I've seen left over foods just being wasted. Especially after big occassions like Thanksgiving, Christmas or 4th of July Celebration. When I see the food just go bad because no one wants to eat left over anymore, I feel really guilty inside. I always think about the street children in the Philippines where they have to sell Sampaguita, rugs or newspaper just so they can help their family to raise money for food..
As part of the Filipino culture and tradition, food is very important and we never throw left overs. I carried that practice even now that I am married. I see to it that the food I am cooking is just enough for us. There are times that we have left over but I never threw them. We always eat it the next day, after all some LOs are better tasting when it sets for a day.

The other day I made a beef roast but we didn't able to eat it all, so what I did is I made a vegetable soup out of it. I just added some frozen veggies (fresh veggies is better) and tadahhhh masarap na ulam na for lunch..
Some left overs that I always used forsecond cooking is adobong baboy, I always uses it as sahog in pansit... Yummmmyummmyyy!
This is our dessert for today.. Sweet rice or malagkit.. Do you guys want some?

Pork BBQ in Skewers

We made BBQ Ribs yesterday and I made the marinade sauce very thick and yummy so I decided to keep it in the fridge instead of throwing it out. Well, I used the same marinade today and it turned out really well too. I baked it this time so its different from yesterday's grilled BBQ.
I already boiled the meat with the marinating sauce so I only baked it with the bell pepper for twenty minutes.
My husband and I ate our BBQ with rice and kimchi. Here are our angels in action.. I was surprised that our son ate because he is not very fond of eating meat... But look at him! Here's Rylie's last bite.. BURP! What did you have for lunch today?

My husband calls green beans the musical fruit because the more you eat the more you toot. I told him that Kamote or sweet potato is the same way, the more you eat the more you Utot too lol..
That's a steamed kamote that we ate for our merienda the other day.

on food and work sched..

My husband was off today but he is gone tonight wahhhhhhh.. He is working tonight from ten pm to 10 am tomorrow. I am not used to sleeping without hubby beside me anymore. So here I am nageemote hehehe.. Since he did not go to work today, he mowed our grass this morning. Whenever he is outside doing lawn work, our kids are out there too. When my daughter came back, she brought me this flowers that she picked from the weeds. They are weed's flowers but I was happy because I thought that it was so sweet of her. Thanks anak, I love you! Then we made some lumpia, hubby was craving for it. Its been a while since I last made lumpia so that's what we made. Yesterday he was very happy because I made some bicol express.
Some people prefer to just mix the ingredients into a raw gound meat, I prefer it to be sauteed.
Our princess wanted to help of course, so I showed her how to wrap the meat into the lumpia wrapper.
We baked half of the lumpia and put half in the freezer. So here's the baked lumpia, its healthier than frying it.
Alrighty, my back is hurting already. Oh my its midnight already, I just remember that I di not eat my dinner yet. Your visit and comments is so much appreciated, Thank you!

and the BBQ feast has begun..

We went for a walk yesterday and as we pass by our neighbor, we smelled some barbecue. My husband said "We should make some bbq tomorrow." So I marinated the meat last night so we could make some bbq today. While waiting for my husband to arrive, my burritos and I cleaned up the grill.. The daughter took some photos while the mom cleans up lol.. (pictures were taken at the back porch) We have two grills here. We bought the bigger one last year and when my husband's buddy was leaving, he gave us his small one. Does anyone need one, you can have the small one for free.. you have to come here though hehehe.. My daughter scratching her elbow because the pesky skitters bit her again... I killed a lot of them while were out though.. revenge! The marinated meat.. Meat in the skewers.. The BBQ team, grilling.. And here's the end product... TADAH! YUMMY! I just wish we have some achara hehehe..Thanks for visiting everyone!

Eggplant Omelet, the healthy way

Tortang talong or eggplant omelet is very popular to Filipinos, it is a common dish that is commonly prepared. This is usually fried but I sometimes bake it to avoid too much grease and its healthier. Have you try baking eggplant omelet? It's good!

Sinigang na Hipon (sour soup shrimp)

We went to the loacal market the other day and bought some fresh shrimp so my daughter and I made a sinigang. Sinigang (source of data: wikipedia) is a Philippine dish famous for the variety of ingredients one can use as well as for its taste. Sinigang is typically sour and is most often likened to Thailand's tom yam.Sinigang often incorporates stewed fish, pork, chicken, shrimp, or beef. Sinigang's characteristic taste is attributed to the ingredient that gives its sour taste, not to the meat's flavor.Pork sinigang, the most common variety, is usually prepared with tamarind (which provides the sourness), tomato, leek, taro and onion. Other vegetables cooked in sinigang may include okra, spinach, radish, green pepper and string beans. With ours, we used petchay or bok choi because that was the only available here hehehe but it was still Yummy

Liver Spread Magic

As I was gathering my ingredients for the menudo that I was gonna cook for our lunch yesterday, I saw this Reno liver spread that was given to me by a Filipina friend here in base, few months back. It immediately popped up into my mind, what will be the taste of menudo if I add this to it. So being as curious as I am, I did put mixed it with my menudo menu. To my surprise, it was very good. As you can see, this was the only left in the pan when I remember to capture a photo lol.. You might wanna try it guys.. It was darn good..
Goodnight for now folks, its 12:30 and I am so tired and sleepy. I just posted this one after I got done folding 3 baskets full of laundry... Whew! See you folks tomorrow!

Suman

I found a suman from the commisary the other day and I thought of trying it. Suman is a type of dessert in the Philippines that is made from cassava. I thought it won't be good but I was surprised that it was. It's my daughter's first time of trying suman but she ate two rolls of it. Even EJ ate some although he wasn't very fond of it. One pack has four rolls and it only cost $.66, not so bad at all.. Here's my daughter's facial expressionswhile eating it hehehe.. She just woke up when I offered it to her.

Wingy Night

Friday Night is called Wing night in my family hehehe.. Why, are you curious? It's because every Friday, they sell chicken wings at Duffy's for 10 cents ($.10) each only. So for 20 pieces you only pay 2 bucks. Pretty good deal isn't it. But since I can't eat chicken anymore (I'm allergic), i just munch on their pizza. EJ love the bread sticks... John and Rye love everything lol..
Alright, enjoy the feast hehehe..

free pan de sal

We experienced the "love thy neighbor" gesture yesterday. Ate Lelet made some pandesal and she gave us these big pieces of pandesal, sarap! Thanks Ate Lelet!

Beef Calde

My daughter and I prepared and cooked beef caldereta the other day. It's been a while since we last cooked a caldereta and hubby misses it so much. Calde is one of his favorite menu. It's good to add black olives and red bell pepper to it but I don't have at that time hehehe. I always pan fry the potato first because it adds a crispiness to it. Here's the yummy calde waiting for the sauce to be thickened...
I thought for sure that I won't have to cook for dinner but there was no left over hahaha..

Mr. Crabs

We got tired of eating at the hotel's resto and food places at the mall so we tried something new and special, we found this Mr. Crabs place in Legazpi. They serve variety of menus but their specialty of course is crab. The ambiance is great and the design inside is awesome. It is very spacious too, I don't think too many people eat there because there's only three customers the whole time we're there. It's a little bit pricy but it was good.
Here's EJ trying to pinch a loaf (pooping... opps sowi)Here's the well where we believe they stock some of the live crabs then but it was dried when we went there. I guess lack of customers forced them to dried it out hehehe.
Here I was with my bare hands, that's one thing I don't like about eating crab because it takes time to get the meat out from the shell. I forgot what it called for this recipe hehehe.. When my daughter got finished eating she took us a picture.. After we ate, we decided to take pictures outside because we love the land scape at the garden. One of the waiters saw us taking pictures so he went outside and took this one. We didn't the whole thing so we brought it and gave it to the tricycle driver who drove us home.
